[BIOGRAPHY]

[BIOGRAPHY]

My name is Garrett Hampton, and I'm a Graphic Designer based in Phoenix, AZ. I found my love for design on my mom's computer, helping her make posters for musicals in the local area. Throughout my studies at ASU, I delved further into design, and found that it is one of the most powerful tools we have to connect people and make them feel seen. In an industry that is so oversaturated with thoughtless output, I want my work to be intentional at every level, every choice I make to have a reason behind it. Design for me isn’t a career of convenience, it’s how I want to contribute something meaningful to the world.

[PHILOSOPHY]

Paul Rand’s quote “design is relationships” is something I adopted into my philosophy after using it as the basis for a poster I made during my senior year. It speaks to the role that design plays in fostering connections between its creator and its viewers, but more broadly to the power that we as designers have to actually do something and help our communities. I want to be able to look back on life and be proud, not just because my designs were good or the money I made, but because I did things that actually benefitted people.
